A Reddit user recently snapped a picture of a covered-up Model Y thought to be the refreshed Model Y codenamed Juniper. Engineering test vehicles have been spotted near Giga Texas and the Fremont factory in California. The vehicle appears to be following a trajectory for an early to mid-2025 launch. It is expected to be released in China first before launching in North America and Europe.

Tesla's rumored redesign for the Model Y, named "Juniper," brings significant changes to its rear and interior design. Leaked photos show a new red light bar across the back hatch, replacing the traditional taillights and central "T" logo, and new perforated seats for ventilation similar to the updated Model 3. The interior now features an ambient light strip across the dash and doors. These updates aim to differentiate the Model Y more distinctly from the Model 3, enhancing its appeal without sacrificing its bestselling status.

A report from China claiming to use information from Tesla's supply chain states that Tesla is planning a Model Y refresh in the first quarter of 2025. Tesla is also reportedly planning to start production of a 7-seat Model Y at Gigafactory Shanghai soon. It is expected to be an upgraded version of the US seven-seater configuration for the Asian and European markets. Most of the changes made to the Model 3 in last year's refresh will make it to the new Model Y.
